Today, my two Italian friends and I made the journey out to Waikiki. No, not the one in Hawaii, but the other supposedly gorgeous and beautiful beach right here in Tarragona! Unfortunately, no one had told us ahead of time that it was a nude beach.
We took the bus 11 from near the Roman amphitheatre all the way to Platja Larga (Long Beach in Catalan). But, “lucky” for us, none of us really knew where we were going or was paying much attention, so we missed our stop and had to get off at and walk back to the stop for the beach. Turns out, that today at Platja Larga there was a huge beach party for vermouth! However, we wanted a more isolated and quiet beach for our wonderful excursion, so the three of us walked the rocky trails on the cliffs to find the renowned and beautiful Waikiki beach.
When we arrived, we were a bit surprised to find that not ONE person was wearing a stitch of clothing. But it later became clear that it was a nude beach (as aforementioned). We had passed a small and not too populated beach on our way from Platja Larga to Waikiki, hidden among the cliffs. And so, we backtracked there, and made ourselves comfortable for the next 5 hours, where we sunbathed, swam in the Mediterranean, picnicked, and played volleyball.
As I said in an earlier post, I’m not traveling so much these days, but I do like to find the hidden gems of Tarragona to make my time here more enjoyable. Now that my classes are over (finals ended for me on Tuesday!) I have TONS of free time to do whatever I like. I spent the majority of this past week laying on the beach and bathing in the sea (#roughlife). I also went shopping, where I rediscovered my love for Zara and Corte Ingles, and made my friends dinner. Who would have thought that my Italian friends would enjoy homemade breadsticks and pizza from an American!? Anyways, they repaid me for my labor in the kitchen by giving me some lessons in Italian- I’ll be a native speaker in no time!
P.S.- Today I found out that I passed my Spanish Literature class!!! Yippie!! 😀
